who are seekers?

Young children seek answers constantly -- they seek a frame of reference, they burn for the nature of reality and their place in it, they weary their sleepless, harried parents with the constant seeking of "why?" -- they are the original seekers.

Teens break away from the stock platitudes and mystifying demands of their parents -- they seek answers to their intense questions about the opposite sex, wondering "what makes them tick?", "what should I say to get his/her attention?" They wonder: "how can I make some money so I can get a car?" "How can I get out of doing that stupid history paper?", but they seek still for answers to the basic questions about how to live, love and thrive. These adolescents still seek.

Adults often still wonder, when they have the time to contemplate these things, "what's it all about?", "why am I working so hard?", "What is the meaning of life?", "What really happens to us when we die?" These, in those moments, are seekers, but they may only have those moments at the late night end of a drinking jag, or when a lover moves on and leaves them wondering... Most of the time, though, they are just too busy meeting deadlines, punching the clock and paying the bills.

There are rewards to continuing to seek, though, and one must grab the time to create the freedom to seek and ... ye may just find...

We, as seekers, are admitting we have not found all -- all the answers to all the questions, so we have humbled ourselves by admitting that.

Seekers are curious about all aspects of the experience of life on this earth and beyond. They gain personal and community strength through lifelong holistic learning in all aspects of life: physical, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual. We have found that all areas of life are inter-related, rather than separate, and we study ancient as well as modern teachings to address basic and practical ways of dealing with life on life's terms.

We start from a higher plateau in our seeking, though, than seekers of a generation ago, and we are on mountains compared to those of a millenium ago.

We stand upon the foundation base of knowledge that results from scores of generations of earnest seekers, and we seek ever more wisdom to apply that knowledge for fulfilled living. We observe, though, that many in possession of this knowledge have brought havoc and destruction on their fellow men, proving their lack of wisdom, so wisdom is our further quest.

We suggest you read these brief explorations, interpretations and questionings, because, I suspect we have something in common and that you are a seeker, too. If you are still nodding your head up and down by the end of this sequence, we should probably share in our spirit of seeking at a local gathering or at our online cyber-gatherings to be scheduled soon. Our quest is for the fulfilment of our own chosen destinies and for the enrichment of ours, our family's and our community's lives -- I am suggesting that we can sooner reach that fulfillment with the aid of each other in a new community than we can alone in our rooms. Join me in this quest...
